Doshen Quarry
Location: Kibbutz Gesher
Client: THE QUARRIES REHABILITATION FUND
Doshen is the largest gypsum quarry in the country.
As a result of the continued expansion of the quarry, it has become the necessary to rehabilitate gypsum waste embankments, which separate the quarry from the Issachar River Reserve near the historical railway bridge.
Rehabilitation of the embankment will be carried out by planting and by regulation of the drainage. Setting up the drainage includes passage for the water in sedimentation troughs, which must be designed to ensure gypsum waste deposit from the quarry, on its way to the Issachar River. In other words – maintaining the ecological balance. The embankment mound will be planted by means of a “spraying” method that includes seeding wild plants indigenous to the region as well as seasonal plants that blossom to enhance the spring landscape.
