Hiriya Landfill
Tel Aviv, Israel

In the valley of Ayalon stands the Hiriya landfill mountain.

There is an international design contest for the redevelopment of the landfill and surrounding floodplain.

In our proposal, the dumpsite is developed into a prominent landmark for the region and is the central attraction of the Ayalon Park. In the proposal there are panoramic terraces constructed and the foot of the slope gets ground protection by the planting of Marquis (macchia). The steeper slopes are equipped with a steel ‘corset’. Fed by rain water, a green oasis is generated in the center of the mountain, with themed gardens and space for cultural activities. In the surrounding valley are shady trails and a constructed irrigation system. The agricultural crops are grown as ‘bustans’, with citrus and olives.
